PROGRAM INTRODUCTIONS

In addition to good speakers, good introductions are a vital part of our program.  When introducing the speaker, please avoid reading the Newsletter biography.  (Members have already done this).  The experienced public speakers will tell you that the hardest speech to give is the introduction.  For this reason, we would like to offer a few suggestions:

  • Be Brief.  Rarely should an introduction take over 1 ½ to 2 minutes.  Shorter is much better.

  • Resist the temptation to swing the attention to yourself.  The purpose of the introduction is to put the emphasis on the speaker.

  • Think through what you plan to say before your introduction.

  • If you use an opening illustration, be sure that it is closely related to the speaker or this topic.

  • Because of the need to be brief, avoid temptation to tell long stories, and most importantly, avoid saying anything or telling jokes that might offend.  All remarks should be in good taste.

(ADDRESS)

Dear John:

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and present the program at our Rotary meeting last week.  It was a very interesting and informative topic.  We always enjoy having members of our community come and share with us information from their area of expertise.

We hope the meeting was a pleasure for you also.  We trust you found our club to be friendly and welcoming.  We strive to have the highest quality of programs at our club meetings and we feel you helped us keep up that standard with your presentation.

Again, thank you for your time.  We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Sincerely,

John Q. Rotarian
